EPS & the environment
“It’s recyclable!”
EPS is being successfully recovered, and recycled throughout the UK.
EPS is 100% recyclable and approx. 100 tonnes of EPS are recycled each month in the UK. Please check out our new Recycling web site, www.expanded-polystyrene-recycling.co.uk
EPS is more acceptable than other packaging materials such as moulded paper pulp, in terms of air pollution, energy usage, water pollution, and global warming potential.
At Kay-Metzeler we are committed to doing our part by recycling, not only our own waste, but also by recycling expanded polystyrene scrap from third parties.
EPS and the ozone layer
Ozone gas forms a thin layer within the earth's stratosphere, which extends from approximately 15 to 50 kilometres above ground level. This ozone layer filters out much of the harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun. Chlorofluocarbons (CFC) have a depleting effect on this protective layer, by breaking down and releasing chlorine atoms as they reach the stratosphere.
EPS is environmentally friendly. It does not contain CFC’s, HCFC’s or fibre.
EPS has a Zero ODP (Ozone Depletion Potential) and a Low GWP (Global Warming Potential).
EPS has been given an 'A+' rating in the bre 'Green Guide'.
It is not noxious.
